25 reportedly Irish passengers were removed from a flight headed to Costa Rica for being drunk and abusive.

The Thomson flight, Tom038, was initially delayed in Gatwick due to a technical fault but as the plane was ready to depart some passengers became abusive towards staff.

Sussex police were called to remove the passengers after the pilot refused to fly with them on board.

The group, all male, included a 14 year old boy.

There were no reports of criminal activity or violence from the removed passengers.

The flight took off at 12.37pm, three hours and twenty two minutes after its scheduled departure.
